In any organization, employees can be found working together within a context where conflict is a daily part of the team culture and trust is lacking. The dynamics of conflict and competition can be quite complex, even in the most basic workplace interactions. For example, certain jobs in sales reward performance based on quotas or commissions. Such conditions often put individuals on the spot to make decisions about their behavior in an atmosphere that encourages both cooperation and competition with co-workers. These work environments are examples of the social psychology phenomenon referred to as the “prisoner’s dilemma.” In the prisoner’s dilemma, an individual is faced with two strategies to solve a problem: both cooperative and competitive options appear to be feasible. Each option creates conflict within the individual because making the decisions creates a dilemma for one person or a group of people attempting to arrive at a decision.
For this task, identify a real-world example of the prisoner’s dilemma that could develop in an organization. Describe the source of conflict for both the individual and the team. Prepare a checklist of three to five strategies to (1) reduce workplace conflict, (2) increase communication, and (3) build cooperation. Once you have completed your checklist, prepare a brief summary of how these strategies would help avoid the prisoner’s dilemma within the group dynamics of an organization.

Support your checklist and summary analysis with at least three scholarly resources published in peer-reviewed journals in the past 7 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.
