Solitude and human relations in regard to the natural world

Write a formal essay about solitude and human relations in regard to the natural world. For the
Qualitative Research Paper, you will (1) think about human relationships with the natural world,
(2) study the role of solitude in the natural world and its applications to societal life, (3) conduct
surveys among a few trusted persons about the general conception of solitude in the
the contemporary world, (4) keep the historical perspective in mind as applicable, and (5) refer
generously to the primary sources.
In regard to the aforementioned objectives, you will find out (1) what other people think about
solitude and human relations in regard to the natural world and (2) how people’s understandings
differ according to their generation. You will create and administer surveys among a few trusted
persons to gain information on this subject matter. (Note that supplement material about solitude
as it relates to society and the natural world will be on Canvas.) Next, you will analyze your data
in relation to your reading, the film Into the Wild, and your own views. Then, present your
findings in an essay. Incorporate your viewpoint, if necessary, when responding to your data and,
perhaps, when critiquing your findings. Special note: Do not send out bulk surveys; interview a
few people with questions that invite substantial responses: e.g., How do you define solitude? Do
you think solitude and nature are related? Are there any drawbacks to solitude? What are the
positive aspects of engaging in solitude?
