The increasing use of plastics and fossil fuels posses serious environmental challenges to the current and future generations. Apart from the huge amount of wastes it introduces into the environment, the release of plastics into the atmosphere have serious negative health implications. plastics are overly non-biodegradable as such do not compose on their only. Instead, the huge hip of plastics will released harmful chemicals into the soils, the underground water bodies affecting all living things in the ecosystem. The overuse of such plastics causes serious health and environmental issues.

Similarly, the overuse of fossil fuels have adverse effects on the environment and on the health of living things. According to Johannes (2018) the burning of fossil fuels releases harmful air into the environment that are dangerous when inhaled directly or when used in the formation of acid rains. Kamau (2019) also reported that burning fossil fuels releases a high amounts of sulfur dioxide that contributes to the formation of acid rains and harmful particulates in the environment. Acid rain is believed to cause serious negative health effects on all living things that depends on it. Besides the serious environmental and health issues associated with the overuse of fossil fuels, depletion of natural resources and threats to sustainable development is also looming following the human over reliance on fossil fuels. As such, besides being causing harm to the environment, human and other living things, the overuse of fossil fuels also result in the depletion of natural resources, consequently retarding the attainment of sustainable development.

Recycling is considered a suitable strategy of minimizing the disposal of excess plastics into the environment as well as the over reliance on fossil fuels. Referred to as the process of reusing materials to minimize waste and consumption of energy, recycling is believed to minimize the amount of plastic wastes being released into the environment as well as the amount of energy being used for processing. It is reported that a significant reduction on the reliance on fossil fuels is likely to be attained through recycling of products, other than sending them to the landfills. If properly done, recycling minimizes the rate of plastic manufacturing as well as reduces the over reliance on fossil fuels to achieve maximum conservation of the environment and preservation of natural resources. The benefits and importance of plastic recycling and resulting implications on plastic manufacturing and fossil fuel use is advanced herein.
