Operational definitions

The operational definition of a variable is the specific way in which it is measured in that study. Another study might measure the same conceptual measure differently. If you were studying ways of helping people stop smoking, smoking cessation would be an outcome measure (dependent variable). How does the knowledge we learn through operational definitions help us in future studies?

Evaluating Qualitative and Quantitative Studies

find one qualitative and one quantitative study. Summarize each study using short paragraphs and discuss and evaluate the data collection methods. Make three recommendations to improve each study (a total of six recommendations) and explain why they are logical means of improvement. Based on your summary, evaluation, and explanation of each study, prepare a report in a 3- to 4-page Microsoft Word document.
