Maintain health and promote gastrointestinal (GI) tract function

1. Run a MyPlate Analysis. How well are you achieving balance, variety, and adequacy in your diet? Which of the five food groups are overrepresented? Which are underrepresented? What changes can you make to balance your food choices so that all the food groups are represented as recommended?

2. Run a Macronutrient Ranges analysis. How well is your diet meeting the recommended intake of kcalories from carbohydrate, protein, and fat? What changes would you have to make to bring your macronutrient ranges in line with the recommended ranges?

3. Run a Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) Report. How well are you meeting the DRIs for vitamins and minerals? Which of these nutrients are below the DRI? Go back to Chapter 2 and identify foods that are good sources of these vitamins and minerals. Can you think of ways you can include more of these foods in your diet?
