Contemporary Maritime Security Issues in the Indo-Pacific Region.

T‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍his is a 1400 words review essay in Contemporary Maritime Security Issues in the Indo-Pacific Region. Description: Choose one scholarly book and write a book review in essay form. The book can be either a substantial research monograph or an edited book, but must be published by a credible scholarly publisher. Short monographs and working papers are not acceptable. To avoid inappropriate choices, students should submit the details of the book they intend to review by email to the subject coordinator for approval prior to writing the review. The review essay should be an original piece of work of 1,500 words in length (excluding footnotes and bibliography). It should involve: a) a summary of the reviewed book’s contents and main arguments (for an edited book this section will need to include the arguments made by the most important individual chapters); b) a critical analysis, including analysis of such elements as: the book’s scope, argument(s), evidence provided in support of argument(s), quality of research, timeliness (i.e., is its content current? out of date? of long-term utility?), how does it compare with other similar literature? does i‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍t make a significant contribution to advances in our knowledge of maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region?); and c) a short conclusion which should provide an overall evaluation of the book’s efficacy and whether it should be recommended to other readers or buyers. A formal introduction is not required. The most important section is the critical analysis, and students should focus much of their effort (at least 50 per cent) on this part of the review. The review essay should be footnoted where appropriate. This should include any specific page or chapter references to the reviewed book. Good reviews will make comparative references to other similar works, or books or articles which make arguments contrary to those of your chosen work. The review essay should include a short bibliography to list all sources consulted. The essay should be headed by a title line which states the book’s author(s) or editor(s), full title, publisher, place of publication, year of publication, total number of pages, and ISBN number.
