The American Health Information Management Association, AHIMA code of ethics is formulated for controlling the ethical behaviors of members and non-members who are obliged to undertake health information management. The code of ethics’ main purpose is to strengthen and improve the provision of quality care in the healthcare sector. AHIMA Code of ethics has si major purposes, promotion of high standards of health information management practices, summarizing the code ethics and principles that show the core values of the healthcare professional, formulate a set of ethical guidelines and principles to be adopted in the decision-making process, develop a professional framework for resolving various uncertainties and professional conflicts that may arise in line of business. Mentoring practitioners that are new in the field of health information management and offering professional judgment on the issue of health information management.

The major principle of the AHIMA code o ethics is to advocate and uphold the consumers’ rights and needs to privacy and confidentiality. The use of health data and their disclosure should be done with the knowledge that consumers’ rights to confidentiality must be upheld. preservation, protection and securing the health information of a patient is another principle of the AHIMA code of ethics. It is important that healthcare practitioners use technology and patient data in a way that is ethical and that protect the privacy and confidentiality of the patient.

ACHE code of ethics was first established in the year 1941. The code ethics has since undergone a number of evaluations resulting in a more refined code of ethics that governs the behavior and actions of health care professionals in different settings. The code of ethics’ main purpose is to serve as a guide for members to control and monitor their behavior in the provision of healthcare services.
