Assignment #2 Analyzing a Fairy Tale Using a Theoretical model
Choose one of the questions below. You may choose any story except for the stories in the “Red Riding Hood” or “Sleeping Beauty” section. Write a typed 1500-1700 word written analysis analyzing the story using one of the “theoretical models” (Freud, Feminism, Marxism) covered in class. Provide at least ONE (1) quote from the “theoretical model” links in SLATE in addition to TWO/THREE (2/3) quotes from your primary text/s. Your written response must be in complete sentences; it must use proper paragraph structure and formal academic style (no “I think”, or “I feel”). Include quotations from the text for this assignment. Follow standard APA or MLA guidelines for the style and format of your response. This paper is due Week 8 and is worth 20% of your final grade.
1) Compare two versions of the same fairy tale, either two print versions from our text or one print and one film/T.V. Outline the differences/similarities between the two versions, using a theoretical model (Freud, Feminism, Marxism) to explain the significance of these differences. Provide at least one quote from the “theoretical model” links posted in SLATE. Provide at least one quote/s from each of the story/ies in our textbook and one example from the film or TV show you selected.
2) Provide a close reading of one version of a fairy tale. You may choose any story except for the stories in the “Red Riding Hood” or “Sleeping Beauty” section. Explain how a particular motif/s develops the theme/s using to one theoretical model (Freud, Feminism, Marxism). Draw on at least one theoretical model over the course of your analysis. Provide at least one quote from the “theoretical model” links posted in SLATE. Provide at least two quotes from the story found in our textbook.

analyzed in comparison to a film or TV version OR two versions of the same story (from our textbook) is analysed using ONE of the theories covered in class (Freud, Feminism, Marxism)
The chosen theory is used to create an academic reading/interpretation of the text, the theory is used correctly and concisely
Conclusion: Clear & concise summary of main ideas and final conclusions to be drawn about the story
Uses three (3) direct, properly integrated quotes from the story and film for support
