Achingly Beautiful the Day

“Achingly Beautiful the Day” by Gabrielle Calvocoressi and “She Walks in Beauty” by Lord Byron.

For this formal paper, I’d like you to write about two poems, one contemporary and one Romantic (a brief overview here.) The paper should use direct quotes from the poems and should cite the line numbers. Make sure you give context for the lines (only a few–not too many) you examine and explain to e what you see in the language of the lines. What you “see” can be an image, but you can also talk about the feelings or ideas created. The paper should be a minimum of three pages, double-spaced. Please include a heading and title.

I’d like you to read the poems and think about the role of nature in each, then in both. We all make connections between human experience and the experience of nature: what are the connections here and how do they compare? In Calvocoressi and Byron, the act of ascending or descending stairs gives the speaker a chance to reflect on nature too–what is shared in these reflections and what is not?
