Adjustment Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Acute Stress Disorder

Adjustment disorders are quite common and potentially very serious because they have been linked to suicide ideation, planned and completed suicide. Consider the important issues of mental status examination and differential diagnosis.
• What are the differences and similarities among adjustment disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and acute stress disorder?
• What are the essential areas that encompass a thorough mental status examination?
• Explain the steps you would take in evaluating symptoms. How would you arrive at a differential diagnosis?
Post your responses in a minimum of 300 words. By Saturday Today
Assignment 2: RA: Diagnostic Formulation
Review the case given below case study (Psychological Evaluation for Jessica E. Smith) for this required assignment (RA). On the basis of the information in the case study, provide a principal (primary) and a secondary diagnosis for the person using the most recent DSM codes. You will also discuss your diagnoses in narrative (paragraph) form. Then, identify and discuss at least one differential (possible alternate) diagnosis for the principal diagnosis and at least one differential (possible alternate) diagnosis for the secondary diagnosis that you gave. Lastly, discuss whether a diagnosis from other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention is warranted.
While you are welcome to list medical conditions that might be a concern, your primary and secondary diagnoses should be psychological conditions listed in DSM-5.
Your paper should have separate sections for:
• Principal and secondary diagnoses
• The reasons for selecting the principal and secondary diagnoses
• Social and cultural factors that may influence the principal and secondary diagnoses
• Differential diagnoses, including a consideration of whether a diagnosis from other conditions are applicable
• The reasons for selecting the differential diagnoses
• Your rationale and justification for why your actual diagnoses are a better fit than your differential diagnoses
Include citations and references in APA style. Your paper should be 5–7 pages in length.

Assignment 3: Schizophrenia
Individuals suffering from schizophrenia may engage in violent behavior, which might cause them to become involved in the legal system. What are the overall symptoms of schizophrenia, and which of these symptoms might contribute most to violent behavior? Also, should an individual with schizophrenia who has a history of violent behavior be forced to take medication? Why or why not?
Post your responses in a minimum of 300 words.
Assignment 4: Diagnostic Case Reports
Click here to go to the Faces of Abnormal Psychology website. There, you will see twelve different disorders listed. For this module, view the following disorders:
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Paranoid Schizophrenia
After clicking a disorder, click the Diagnostic Overview tab in the left column. This will cover the major diagnostic features of the disorder. After that, click the DSM-5 Features tab. You can then go though the Case History, Interview, and Treatment sections on the website. Finally, in the Assessment section, you can complete an optional multiple-choice quiz. You have to write a case report for each case study. You should use the format provided on the web page. There is a sample report that you can also view by clicking the link in the upper-right corner.
The format for the sample report is as follows:

analyze two global issues in context and examine the connections between them. You will also consider how the issues would be experienced by different global villagers.

In this final project, you will be asked to synthesize different parts of your own previous work as well as to integrate your work with the work of others. You will accomplish this in a paper of 2000 to 2500 words (with a typical font and spacing this will be approximately 8 to 10 pages). Your paper should consist of three sections:

In the first section you will integrate your understanding of your own global villager with an understanding of other villagers.
In the second section you will analyze two global issues in context and examine the connections between them. You will also consider how the issues would be experienced by different global villagers.
Finally, in the third section, you will take what you have learned and describe how these gains have changed you as a global citizen.

Your paper should be well developed and convey your understanding of the concepts studied in this course. When referring to sources, be sure they are properly cited and referenced, using either APA or MLA formatting consistently. Finally, your paper should be organized, coherent, and unified; it should also be free of spelling and grammatical errors. If you need help in writing such a paper, take a look at The Writing Center: University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Section 1: Living in the Global Village
In Lessons 1 through 9 you were asked to write about one person in the global village, describing this individual in Lesson 1 and then telling how this particular person was affected by each of the seven global challenges in Lessons 2 through 8. You were asked to comment on the human rights of this villager in Lesson 9.

Throughout this course you have been asked to look at the world from the perspective of the person you represent in the global village. What is the nature of your personal “worldview,” and how do you think it is like or different from that of the person you represent in the global village?
Please review the global villager postings of two students who represent individuals in two continents other than the one in which your villager resides (for example, if your villager was from Asia, you could select one other person from Africa and one from Europe). In some detail, tell how your global villager is both similar to and different from the other two villagers that you reviewed.

Section 2: Analyzing Global Issues
This course has asked you to examine closely a variety of issues that affect people all over the globe.

Choose just one of the global issues you have been writing about, and describe the historical context of this issue. Then explain how this issue is experienced differently in two separate parts of the world. How is it experienced by your global villager and the two others you reviewed in section 1?
Identify two global issues and describe how each of these issues impacts you now and how each may impact you in 2030.
Analyze the relationship between the two issues you just identified. How does each one affect the other? Be specific, referring to outside sources as needed.

Section 3: Exploring Global Citizenship
This course has asked you to explore your role as a global citizen .

Taking Action Activity—What was the nature of your Taking Action activity? In what ways, if any, was this activity related to thinking globally about a preferred future related to a global issue and acting locally to help create that preferred future? How does it relate to the goals of the course?

Globally Competent Citizenship—In the introduction to this course, its general goal and objectives were described. Please look at the twelve knowledge, skill, and attitude objectives (characteristics) for the course and then:

Identify the two objectives that are relative strengths for you as a globally competent citizen. Provide an analysis of your choices.
Identify the two objectives where you are relatively weak at this point. Discuss the reasons for selecting these objectives (characteristics).
Identify the three most important things that you learned about specific global issues (revolutions like technology or information or themes within a revolution such as immigration, food and hunger, water, or climate change) while you were in this course.
Identify the two most important skills related to global issues that you learned (or enhanced) while you were in this course.
Identify the two ways in which your attitudes toward global issues may have changed while you were in this course.
Finally, describe actions that you could take that could have a positive impact on international relations.

Describe how governance trends are related to the person you represent in the global village and to her/his country.

Use the Internet to find out how the person you represent in the global village might be affected by the global challenges associated with governance. In your post, describe how governance trends are related to the person you represent in the global village and to her/his country. For guidance, see the “Global Village Activity Tips” document.

Post a well-reasoned and thoughtful response to the following two questions. Reply to at least two classmates’ responses by the date indicated in the course Calendar.

In what ways is state power changing (increasing, decreasing, shifting, diffusing)?

What are the implications of these changes for how we tackle some of the global issues discussed in this course?

GLB-WA8
Answer each of the following questions on the peril of conflict and the promise of conflict resolution. Your answer to each item should be an essay of 350 to 800 words in length. (With a typical font and spacing, this comes to between 1½ and 3 pages.) It is recommended that you refer to outside sources as you consider these issues. Be sure to document your sources correctly.

Answer one (1) of the following questions:

We live in a world in which 13 of the top 50 economies are companies, not countries. How does this change the responsibility companies have for providing for social needs and addressing big-ticket challenges of the future? How can companies ensure their own future prosperity by beginning to engage looming issues of concern—from energy needs to public health to income inequity?

Is the proliferation of nongovernmental organizations the result of an incapacity on the part of governments? Or, are NGOs an innovation in human social organization and an important step forward for addressing global and local challenges? How can NGOs and governments work together to complement one another? How should the private sector involve itself in such coalitions?

Answer the following question: If we have truly crossed the bridge from the Westphalian nation-state model, then what is the next step in the evolution of our societies? Will governments around the world be overwhelmed by this new environment? Will they adapt to meet the constellation of new challenges and opportunities? Will authority become increasingly decentralized? What importance does leadership play in this new system and how can it help guide countries, corporations, organizations, and institutions to necessary reform?

As you answer the questions about global citizenship below, be sure to reflect the Universal Ethical Standards of clarity, relevance, and logic in your responses.

Identify one global issue that is important to you, either a trend area such as technology or information or a theme within a trend, such as immigration, food and hunger, water, or climate change, and answer the following questions related to that issue.

What is your preferred image of the future related to this issue? (What would you like to see as the state of this issue in 2030?)

Taking Action: What are three actions you could take to help bring about the preferred image of the future that you described in your response to the first question?

GLB-WA9
Answer each of the following questions on the responsibilities of global citizenship. Your answer to each item should be an essay of 250 to 300 words in length. (With a typical font and spacing, this comes to between 1 and 1½ pages.) It is recommended that you refer to outside sources as you consider these issues. Be sure to document your sources correctly.

How would you define global citizenship? What are the characteristics of a globally competent citizen? How would you rate yourself on the degree to which you reflect various characteristics of a globally competent citizen?

Return to the “Acting Locally” section of the lesson. Read the subsection on “Micro-Lending” and visit the suggested Web site. (You may also perform additional research to clarify your understanding of micro-lending, if necessary. ) Then prepare an essay in which you advocate for an individual or group whom you believe would be deserving of a loan. Be sure that you begin by explaining the concept of micro-lending. Students please note: Do not bother clicking the “Complete the time and money survey” link. The link has expired, and the e-book authors have not renewed it. It is not required for this assignment.

Explain and give an example of the concept of an economic vote.

GLB-final
The seven global challenges have been examined independently in the previous modules. Now, in a final project, you will summarize how these trends are related to each other and will integrate your knowledge and activities.
