How does serving in the military effect mental health? How can these psychological consequences be prevented?

In this paper I will discuss how serving effects mental health in specific ways and also how it can be prevented through public programs. Efforts to lower the occurring rate of psychiatric disorder after psychological trauma has occurred, can be classified into three different categories. Primary prevention includes the selection, preparation and training of individuals that are likely to be exposed to potentially traumatizing moments. Secondary prevention deals with a variety of terse psychological approaches immediately or shortly after traumatizing life experiences, one example beingpsychological debriefing. Tertiary interventions comprise the treatment of established PTSD and others.
